ARC Brick wall regarding my grandfather's parentage

Post by dippykitty »

My grandfather, Felix Aguirre, was adopted and knew nothing of his parents. A few years ago we ordered his birth certificate, which stated that his mother was Johann Aguirre (nee Matheson) and his father Felix Juan Aguirre of Buenos Aires. He was born in London (adopted in Derbyshire) but I have found no record that could feasibly be his mother for a birth, marriage or death in the BMD records, nor does she appear to have departed the UK for Buenos Aires after the birth. I've been completely stumped on where to go on this one for years now and was just wondering whether anyone could offer some advice on whether there are other research routes I can try to locate her through?

Edited to include birth details as requested: My grandfather was born in November 1911 in St Pancras, London, according to his birth certificate. He was registered 2 weeks later but as mentioned, I can't find any trace of his mother under my own steam!

Some dates to put this into context would possibly help -- when was your grandfather born?

Hi,

I'm not sure that Verancia would be any relative as the birth dates are too close and my grandfather was born in London, not Newport, to a different mother going on what you've found in the census. Given that the birth certificate has my grandfather's father down as living/working in Buenos Aires, I'd always assumed that his mother came back to the UK alone.

It would make sense as I've not been able to find even a halfway feasible record here. A contact in Buenos Aires searched the marriages over there though and said she couldn't find anything so who knows!

Does the birth certificate give an address for the birth? I wondered if search for that in the 1911 census would help?
Who registered the birth?

46 Liverpool Street, St Pancras but there was no-one of any feasible connection living in the house in the census (or so it seemed to me!) and it appears to be some kind of boarding house that she presumably turns up at somewhere between April and November! He was registered by Johann Aguirre, who's down as his mother (that's the only reason I even have her name!).
