Go to Blists Hill Pete, a Victorian Town at Ironbridge, you would love it, much bigger and better than the BC one at Dudley:-

Linell.
Have to agree with this Lin. We took the kids last year and couldn't get them out. We're definitely going again this summer.

Re: Oswestry & Chester
Have you been away yet Pete? If so how was it?
We stayed at the Premier Inn in Kingswinford, was okay. We'd rung up to ask if it was possible to check in early as we were going to a wedding that started at 2pm, same as check in. They said if they weren't busy we could, then they rang us back before we left to say we could check in an hour early - we hadn't expected that!!

Chirk Castle (also NT I think is okay), and then if you don't mind heights then there's the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct at Froncysyllte one of Telford's engineering masterpieces. You could also take the A5 up towards Llangollen, it takes you through the Horseshoe Pass, great views.
You're also not too far from Theatre Clwyd, which does have some good plays on (and dead easy parking!), that's just a stone's throw from where I grew up.
Pontcysyllte, if you can stand the heights.

Re: Oswestry & Chester
We were there last year, I couldn't walk over it - only managed about 5 meters!
It might have been better if there was no one else on it, but it was busy the day we were there!

We had a long weekend at Chester 2 weeks ago, I thought Winchester was a lovely city but Chester was so much more, the walk around the walls, and the roman history were brilliant. my husband also enjoyed the cheese shop followed by the whiskey shop, I enjoyed all the shops!! We also had a day at Conwy castle hard work on the legs but well worth it, along with Chirk castle. On the way up to Chester we stopped at Blist Hill museum well worth a visit.

My Husband couldn't even set foot on it. When we went to London and crossed the Millennium Bridge, which is only a low footbridge, I suddenly found myself on my own as he sprinted off to get to the other side.

I grew up 20 minutes drive from Chester, so I know all about the shopping! It is good.
Conwy is also worth a visit, as is Bodnant Gardens just up the valley from Conwy. We were in Conwy last summer, my other half thought the little fishing boats quaint - there's nothing like them in Denmark. We used to buy fish from Keith the Fish when I was a child - we could see there was a plaque commemorating him in the harbour.
