Black Country Songs

Post by SRD »

Whilst browsing one of my other haunts I found this thread asking about Black Country folk songs.

Does anyone know any Black Country specific songs?
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

I have

"The Ballad of the Black Country" by Jon Raven
it has tracks on like " The Brave Dudley Boys" and "Perrys Croft bull bait"

and I have a book by Jon Raven "The Urban and Industrial songs of the Black Country and BIrmingham"

Part of the brave dudley boys.

"Times they Wee mighty queer,
And Vittle it was very dear.

So fur to make corn cheap
We burned un all of a yeap

But the work was scarce begun
When sodgers came and spoit the fun

We all ran down our pits
Frietened a most out of our wits

God Bless Lord Dudley Ward
He Know'd as times been hard

He called back the sojermen
And we'll never riot again.

from the book by Jon Raven
