ARC TBC -Tackling 3x G Grandma Frances Mary Jones again.

Post by MarkCDodd »

I haven't looked at this for a while.

We know her father was Thomas and a "Puddler" according to her marriage.

She claims a birth place of Bilston in nearly all records.

This may be her family in 1841.

Frances is spelt with an "i" and was originally marked down as female but that was crossed out and changed to male.

no one find the 1851 census for the above see if its francis or frances ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

There is an average of 14,000 Thomas Jones is a UK census.

The number of Francis/Frances Jones increases by 200-300 per census till there are over 2000 in 1901.

That 1841 census is the only one I have found where a Thomas Jones who works in a smelter (Puddler/Forgeman) is living with a Francis/Frances anywhere near Bilston.

In the 1851 census there are 28 Thomas Jones living in Staffordshire who match that 1841 census age (born 1791 +/- 5 years).

Only one works in a forge and he is a Clerk.

Looking at possible Thomas Jones living is the Hall Green/Sedgley area, where Frances married in 1858, this one is a possible but no Frances in the house and the age varies between census.

These are off the Wolerhapton indexes site

JONES Mary Thomas & Elizabeth 31 Dec 1815 Bilston Pudler
JONES William Thomas & Elizabeth 12 Jul 1818 Bilston Forgeman
JONES Eliza Thomas & Elizabeth 24 Feb 1822 Bilston Pudler Twin
JONES Job Thomas & Elizabeth 24 Feb 1822 Bilston Pudler Twin
JONES Anne Thomas & Elizabeth 5 Dec 1824 Bilston Pudler
JONES Elizabeth Thomas & Elizabeth 1 Jul 1827 Bilston Pudler
JONES Hannah Thomas & Elizabeth 15 May 1831 Bilston Pudler
JONES Charles Thomas & Elizabeth 6 Oct 1833 Bilston Pudler
JONES Thomas Thomas & Elizabeth 27 Dec 1835 Bilston Pudler ........Burial ? JONES Thomas 9months 29 May 1836 Bilston

and then that one

JONES Frances Mary Mary 18 Jan 1835 Bilston Single woman

It does look possible that the "Francis" in 1841 could be Mary's daughter.

I think Hannah married 1855

JONES Hannah 23 s 27 Feb 1855 Japanner Ettingshall Thomas Jones Pudler ROPER Ambrose B Ettingshall

Could someone find her in 1851 and see who else was with her?

Looking for Mary's marriage is a bit of a needle in a haystack job.
