Charles Ecclestone born 1833
All I have are tattered remnants of a family bible to help with this man.
Born 23rd August 1833 according to the family bible. According to his census returns, in High Offley which was in Shropshire in 1833 and part of Newport.
From his marriage certificate to Emily (Emma) Darlington on the 24th October 1858 at Wombridge Parish Church, he is 25 years of age (which fits in with the bible D.O.B), a bricklayer and living in Wombridge. His father is listed as William Eccelstone, a Labourer. No indication that William is dead on the Marriage Cert.
Only clue to his his mother is from the bible. I believe it is Sarah Ann Momford, born 14th May 1817. I have no idea where....
He named his first born Sarah Ann and his second William Henry so I am pretty sure that Sarah Ann Momford and William Ecclestone are his parents.
I just recieved Charles' death cert and it tell me nothing usefull.
What I need to do is find some evidence of Charle's parents and if he had any siblings.
PLEASE HELP with this one as I am doing this part of the tree for a family member who has been trying for years to solve this.
This family will eventually end up on the the BCC tree as part of my Dodd family....

The only possible one I have found so far is
1841 Stafford Union Workhouse, St Mary, Stafford
ECCLESTON, Charles M 10 1831 Staffordshire Scholar

Re: Charles Ecclestone born 1833
Yes, I have that as an option. There is a William Eccelstone, 8 years of age, in the same institution.
In 1851 Charles is a Servant on a farm in Knightley, Staffordshire.
1861 - Walking Street (Yard) in Newport, Shropshire.
1871 at Lime Kiln Bank in Church Aston, Shropshire.
1881 in High Street Albrighton. Shropshire (Near Sheriff Hales).
1891 at 23 Paradise Street, Longton (Stoke Upon Trent), Staffordshire.
1901 in Machins Building, Horeshay (near Dawley), Shropshire.
1911 I have not been able to find him.
1912 he died in the Salop County Lunatic Asylum. Witness is his first born child, Sarah Ann Jones nee Eccelestone. She give his age as 80.
The other possible 1841 census has a Wiliam, Sarah and a Charles in Stafffordshire but that Charles is only 1 year old.
No clues from the census, marriage or death certificates have got me any closer to his parents.

Re: Charles Ecclestone born 1833
Plenty of William Eccelston(e) marriages around but I am sure it is Sarah Momford for the mother.
Staffordshire Record Office looked up the the St Mary Parish Register (High Offley C of E) for me and found no Charles Eccelstone baptism.
I think Lichfield have the Bisphop's records....
There is an 1841 census I just found that might be worth looking at...
ECCLESTON, William M 75 1766 Staffordshire
ECCLESTON, Sarah F 25 1816 Staffordshire
ECCLESTON, George M 5 1836 Staffordshire
ECCLESTON, Elizabeth F 1 1840 Staffordshire
Address....
The Nook, High Offley, Woodseaves
William may be Sarah's father in law.
Doesn't explain why her two eldest would be in the Work House.

Father died and she couldn't pay for them all and they were deemed old enough to cope -- particularly if she was thinking they would be together and company for each other.

Re: Charles Ecclestone born 1833
Thanks for that but we know the mother is Sarah and most likely Sarah Ann Momford but I need to know who William is and find a marriage.
I have arranged for somebody to visit the Staffordshire and Lichfield archives.

Nope...
The friend who was going to visit is very ill and out of action for quite a while.
The cousin who really needs this lives in Scotland so its a bit far to drive.
