"completed" Mary PUGH .. widow..who was her first husband?

Thanks to Jimmy and Sparkstopper I now have a name for Moses RICHARDS second wife.... Mary PUGH...but when she married Moses she was a widow... here they are just before they got married

1871 census...Park Lane Gate, Stokesay, Shropshire, England
Mary PUGH(37) widow... collector of tolls born Lydbury North Salop,
daughter Martha Pugh(6) born Stokesay Salop,
Moses RICHARDS(32) lodger widower...bricklayer born Leintwardine,
his daughters Elizabeth RICHARDS(10) & Eliza(8) both born Ludlow

My next problem is working out what her name was before she married Mr. PUGH... realise I may have to send of for marriage certificate for her marriage to Moses.

Now....on the 1881 census ( see below).. there are a load of PUGHs who seem to be living in the same house.... could this be a son of Mary?

On IGI... found a Thomas PUGH christened in Stokesay 24 May 1854... parents William PUGH and Mary

...and I haven't been able to find the first marriage of Mary??? to William PUGH.

Can any of you 'eagle-eyed' detectives spot the previous census or marriage?

Had to get the map book out..... Little Stretton looks a good fit... only about 6 miles away from Stokesay and also about 6 miles from Lydbury North.

so... looks likely that Thomas and Martha are both children of William PUGH and Mary ( possibly Davis)

that marriage date looks good too, though the only Madeley I can find on the map (near Telford) is maybe 20 miles away from these other places..... still OK?

Googled these places because I am not familiar with that part of the World.... well... my husband's ancestors certainly came from a beautiful area!!
.....definitely have to add them to the list on our next visit to the UK.

That Clun marriage looks interesting....on that one it is DAVIES not DAVIS.... that might tie up with the 1841 census you found which was DAVIES.
Think I will have to order marriage cert. to sort this one out.

Just came across a Mary DAVIES on the 1851 census in Meole Brace working as a house servant in the HAMAS household... birthplace listed as Clun...birthdate 1835.

Looking on the map Clun is about 4 miles from Lydbury North

Then I just found another Mary DAVIES living in Clun in 1851 working as a house servant with the GWILLIAM family... birthplace Mainstone ( which looks to be about 4 miles from Lydbury North)

.... Oh there's another one in Clun living with her parents....John and Susan DAVIES!!
... and another one in Clunton ( also a couple of miles from Lydbury North)!

I suppose there are loads more...
Hmm... think I am going to give up on this one... too many Mary DAVIESs
I think my best bet at this stage is to send off for her second marriage certificate... when she married Moses RICHARDS... that should give her father's name ( hopefully!)
