Strange Census entry

Post by snoopysue »

This was on the news letter from Lost Cousins

Apart from ascribing some unusual occupations to members of his family, it looks to me as if the head of household invented the birthplaces of his many servants.

Even my husband was amused by that, does make you wonder how many whiskey's he'd drunk before he filled that one in!

I only hope they're not my rellies, it'd bugger up the research somewhat!!!

Might be him travelling to New York in 1858 aboard Africa. His occupation is "Servant". His employer is a Mr. Joseph Eagleman, Gentleman, from Germany. who lives in the USA.

Re-reading it; I did wonder if it was filled in by a disgruntled servant.

Disgruntled is a fine word, I wonder if one can be gruntled :?

Aparently it's a forgery! This was supposed to have happened before the census was transcribed, and the "proof" is that Pakistan didn't exsist until 1947!!!
Still happy they're not my rellies!!!

It looks like an extra page added after the last page and is is very different writing, and someone has doodled on the very last page. Looks like someone working for one of the photographic agencies had a sense of humour.
