I have just been looking at the number of members, there are nearly 24 pages, ( 1239) members who have never posted.

yep you always get that jimmy with forums, i cant see why they go to the trouble of registering and not posting, as you dont get to see any extra info if you are registered or not.

As peterd says, there are always mumchancers. Some register because they think it's polite to, some find what they're looking for so don't bother to post, some register then find that they don't like the company, some register thinking there are hidden benefits, some just can't be bothered.

Some sites have regular culls of the mumchancers, others keep the numbers up as it might make a difference to the advertising revenues they get.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

The ones like that are for the search thingies arent they? Like a spy bot?
Something like that I think?

Some join and lose the link. I know if I archive on the general and send a message some people say they lost the link.

All groups have people who join and look in only. Some people are afraid to join in...
Perhaps we are scary!
Well NL is but we all know that!
