ARC TBC.............Can't find Edward JONES and Edward JONES

Post by expat66 »

I thought I was doing so well!!... now I'm stuck in the JONES's :?

RF very kindly gave me this...

1876....St Thomas Dudley Edward JONES (23) bachelor....miner...resident Dudley, father Edward JONES (miner)....bride Eliza Jane WHITE(20) spinster... resident Dudley...father Richard WHITE (boatloader)..... witnesses William TAYLOR & Emma WHITEHOUSE

I have Eliza Jane WHITE and her family in 1871..
2 Old Cross St, Tipton, Staffordshire
Richard WHITE(37) labourer at iron works,
wife Jane (35) dressmaker,
kids Eliza(14), William(13), George(12), Sarah(9), James(7), Noah(6), Alfred(5), Alice(4mths) all born Tipton

then in 1891..Eliza Jane already widowed!
100D Gt Bridge St, West Bromwich, Staffordshire,
Eliza Jane JONES(35) widow born Tipton,
children..Joseph(15) heaving iron at the ??,
Edith(12) , Edward(8) & Sophia(6) all born Tipton,
Emily(2) born W. Brom,
boarder Samuel HOMER(39)single iron puddler born W.Brom

Can't find Edward and Eliza Jane and family in 1881... would expect them to be in Tipton with children Joseph and Edith.

So other than his marriage and his father's name and occupation I have nothing on Edward JONES.... can't trace him any further back at the moment unless I can find him on a census!
Can anyone spot him?.... or his father?

Any help greatly appreciated..... too many JONES are 'doing my head in ' :?

Thanks again

Has the enumerator mistranscribed his notes? --- lost the daughter Edith and given the wife her name?

Thankyou so much Maths girl.... you are very good at spotting this stuff!....... I never considered that the enumerator might make a mistake.... I am sure you are right on this ... the address fits along with the names/ dates etc.
I think that 1871 census is right too.... looked on the map and Grout St. is very close to Gt Bridge St.

I think that the Nancy on that census is Nancy PARKES... found a marriage and have posted it for lookup
1851.....JONES Edward....... PARKES Nancy West Bromwich, All Saints.......... Sandwell Register Office 22/5/229

One puzzle I have is why Nancy is listed as a widow on the 1881 census
39 Charles St, West Bromwich, Staffordshire,
Nancy JONES(50) widow born Tipton..
sons both born West Brom... John(25) coal miner and Thomas(14) iron tube maker,
daughter Maria(9) born West Brom

then Edward JONES appears to be 'back from the dead?' in 1891
15a Chapel St, West Bromwich, Staffordshire,
Edward JONES(65) coal miner
& wife Nancy(60) both born Tipton,
daughter Maria(20)single born West Brom,
lodgers Thomas PARKES(72) widower gen. labourer born Tipton
& Abraham PARKES(28) married coal miner born West Brom.

Is that just a mistake on the 1881 census? and where was Edward in 1881??

Or another Edward ??

My granddad married two Ann's, both born in Tipton and of the same age and both called Nancy. Really confusing !

Or maybe he was away working and the enumerator assummed she was a widow
