stick what info you have and we might able to point you in the right direction
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Re: father unknown?
Well to be honest its very hard because its shrouded in mystery. It concerns my dads side of the family. I wanted to know the name of my grandfathers father, his birth cert says 'father unknown'. I know a few details but does anybody know if there is a way I can find out who his father is (really annoying me
) lol.
Would there be any records anywhere else? parish records/baptisms or something? if so how can I access them?
Sorry for all the questions but I think I've hit a brick wall. Any suggestions most welcome, thanks.

Re: father unknown?
Have you looked at his marriage cert to see if father is on there?
sometimes the info is put on later....maybe those concerned relent and give the info.
Have you them on a census at all?
When was he born?
Is he on 1901 or 1911?
Have you a bapt at all?
Depending which area it would be the local archives.
Give us what you know.
dates, names etc etc

Re: father unknown?
I'm not sure about the marriage cert, not been able to check that. The main problem I have is that had theres very little information avaliable as he was unwilling to give any information, the brief reasons he gave were all lies. I know absolutely nothing about my grandfathers father, so it seems like ive hit a brick wall because I only know what I have already posted, thanks.

Re: father unknown?
Depending on the years there are bastardly files and sometimes you can find the father that way. I'm not overly familliar with using them and perhaps someone here could help a little more, but I do know they are there. They are the record of court ordered support, much like modern day support payments.
Also, remember, alot of times the bride or groom lied on their marriage certificate.. I have a gr.grandmother who is very likely illegitimate, however she did give a father's name on her marriage cert. There's a line through Father on her birth cert.
Good luck

Re: father unknown?
Thanks very much for that information much appreciated. I've been talking to my brother and he seems to remember that Harolds birth certificate and marriage cert both have father unknown on them (He saw them as our late great uncle George was tracing the family history years ago). I will get the certs anyway as obviouslty there will be some valuable information on them.
