The first Hobbit movie, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" opens on the 14th December 2012.

I wonder if I can get myself put into a coma until then?

Not an Unexpected Party then ?? - Never tire of reading that first chapter, it's clear to see why Tolkien never needed pictures, such wonderful descriptions of the dwarves when they came tumbling in through the door. Does anyone remember the radio play from years ago, which starred Ian Holm as Bilbo. I still have it on tape - excellent listening.

Ah yes --- Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort. Don't know if I could manage all those breakfasts though

read a book on tolkien some years back which mentions his friendship with g b smith at king edwards school, in 1920s tolkien had a book of his poetry published.
