Hi all,
thought I'd ask for help here.
For those that haven't seen my intro here it is (it will help explain my reguest for help)
I am researching my family history and in the usual way of surfing the net found this site (it was recommended to me).
I have tried over the years to put together my tree with various levels of success.
When I started I only had my birth certificate - no other information and no relatives - I was adopted. I never knew my mum or saw her, she sadly passed away in 2005. I found that out quite by accident.
As far as I knew she was still alive when I began, so I 'started' to plot my ancestors and discover my roots by jumping back to her grandparents so she never had to know. But but chance or fate I made contact with a living relative who told me about my mum.
I went back as far as I could in a straight line to gain an identity and discover what my ancestors did and who they were.
My next mammoth and quite impossible challenge is trace my roots down my fathers line - but I don't even have a name. So that is not likely to happen, but it would put the icing on the cake.
I don't want to meet him or want anything from him. I just need a name to start me off
So - my request for help would be any advice/info on how to find out my fathers name. I know that my mum was in the army, he must have been too. They were engaged to be married. She fell pregnant and told him, thinking it would be ok as they were engaged to be married anyway. He buggered off and I think joined the Merchant Navy.
Any starters?
How do I get my adoption records? Would they contain any clues? Thanks in advance to any replies.
Kind regards
Dean

Hi Dean, Depending how old you are . at a certen age you can ask to see your records. Also some mothers leave a letter for said child to read. try the courthouse where you came from. Some times there are 2 birth certs as we found when we looked for my half brother, hope this helps a little Gwen
