Hi from a searcher

Post by Boris »

Hi everyone. Can some one give advice please. My surname is Edge, my father hailed fom Pompey & the family must have gone there for work in the dockyard in Nelson' s time, moving from Blandford Forum. Now my prob is I can get back to the 1730s with full details but there was a great fire in BF in 1731 that destroyed parish records & I am now stuck.
Where can I look now? My people around that time had a blacksmiths business in BFF & I was musing about them possibly being in a guild. Could you suggest any other leads in Dorset. Help & thanks.

Apprentice records are pretty good. Usually lists the father and address of the apprentice.
