Hi everyone !
I'm French, but my mother was born in Northampton, where half of my family lives right now. Her maiden name was "ADDIS", and it's a family trick to call the first son 'John' .. I guess it's enough for you to guess how much of a headache I get while trying to find out who's who..
I started looking around Northampton, to find out that they actually came from the Herefordshire, and before that, from the Worcestershire.
Since I have absolutely no idea of how registers and official documents are kept in England, I got myself an account on ancestry.com and found most of the informations I have now there(from resencement documents and birth, marriage and death indexes). Thanks to this site I was able to follow pretty closely my ADDIS ancestors until about 1841, date of the first resencement in the UK. Without being 100% though, which is bothering me, I feel like building sandcastles..
Since I am an absolute newbie when talking about genealogy research, I wonder where or how I could find what I'm missing, which are :
- copies of certificates(births, marriages and deaths ones)
- any earlier information..
I'm also interested in Mary Ann Featherstone who got married in 1890 in worcester, I need to find wether she got married with Albert John Addis or not.. their marriage have the same references but I guess you can put several marriages on the same volume on the same page so I can't be sure..
And in knowing wether a Catharine Maran on 1851's resencement(born around 1825 in St. Andrews, Worcestershire) can be a Caroline Mason on the next ones ?
Thank you for your time

Re: Hi everyone !
Got the info from the family search site here https://www.familysearch.org
If you go to the links section on the forum, there are lots of sites listed to aid in searching. you can buy copies of birth, death and marriage certificates for events from 1837. I think you can order them via ancestry, but I tend to use the local registry offices.
I'm not very good at searching on the new family search site yet, but Jimmy is a whiz. If you post your request in general section I'm sure lots of people will jump in to help you out. Everyone on here is very helpful and friendly.

Wow, it looks like it, thank you !
May I ask how did you get the informations about their marriage without having to pay for it, then ?
And what about before 1837 ?

Re: Hi everyone ! - Mary Ann Featherstone
I wouldnt order any certificates from Ancestry they are far too expensive! Use either a local registry office or from the GRO
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Anything pre 1837 you will have to rely on parish records.
The web site cid gave is free.

I've just had a look, but the only records/ certificates that I can see are the BMD ones at £23 pounds a pop!
The GRO costs about £9 and are relatively quick (they do give an estimated time of delivery for the UK, which varies according to how busy they are) and you can order with a credit card, so great for outside of the UK!

ahhhhh my mistake, i hadnt realised you would have to purchase a paper copy to get a digital one too, that does make it expensive

Oh, alright, thank you ^^
And what about those paid accounts some members have ? I think I read something about having to suscribe to get access to some database.. I might have got it wrong though
