Found that on the 1871 census dau of David Foulkes is an Ellen now married to a Whitehouse and here is the marriage

wonder if John is father in law of Ellen?

John Whitehouse and John "Westly". There are also two small regimental badges stuck in the bible, one of the North Royal Lancashire Regiment and the other "Lanchester".

Could it be the child of Ellen foulkes and Thomas Whitehouse b abt 1871 or another child born later?

When did photography come in? cos John Whitehouse in the Grove bible is one of the photos

At this hour!?! It's 1:28 in the morning! No barby now! Besides, I don't want to have anything to do with anything hot. We're just getting over having 3 days in a row over 43 degrees Centigrade. I'm frizzled!

Anyway ... back to business ... '91 census added to Ellen & Thomas (& '51 to Daniel & Eliza). I don't know that we have enough to go on to say whether the John in the Grove bible is theirs or not. I looked up military records in case Peter was on to something, but couldn't see anything relevant.
