*Archive?* Family Stories
I though i would share a couple of family stories with you all that have sparked my interest in tracing the family tree. One story i have found evidence and validated as fact.
first story i have is about my great grandad, He co-owned a motor garage with two partners in doancaster, south yorkshire. His name was sydney read and his partners surnames were bray and walley. The family story is that one of the partners absconded (ran off) with all the money that the business had made. i would love to know if the story was true or not. I have started to search in the local history archives at a couple of newspapers that were around at the time to see if i can find out any information.
The second story is that a great great uncle of mine was a train driver and was involved in a major crash here in doncaster that killed a lot of people. It is rumoured that he could still hear all the screams after it was all over and this sent him mad and he had to go into a mental institution. I have done some research into his birth date and death date and using this not only have i found details of the crash, in which 14 people were killed, but also the official government report on the crash that names him as the driver. my next step will be to look at the local history archives to try and find out if he did get sent to a local mental institution.

Re: Family Stories
Do you have his death certificate, or census records - they might give some info?

Sorry

He was the one I meant!
What info do you have, we could try and chase them up on the census.

Re: Family Stories
think this might be best in General discussion
can you open a thread for the other one in General then it helps to keep the 2
families separate
I will move this one in a min shall we retitle this one Train driver or something too?
