*Archived* -Missionary List?

Post by mallosa »

Trying to help my Brother In Law who has done quite a lot of research regarding his G.G.Grandfather, but has hit a bit of a brick wall
He has the Passenger List but it only gives name and no other info.

Is there a list of Church of England Missionary's that went out to Sierra Leone in 1900?

Looking for:
Charles Henry Hookway born 18th Nov 1859 Crediton Devon

Departed England via Liverpool on 9th Aug 1900
Sailed on S.S.Sobo - bound for Sierra Leone

If he was a Church of England Missionary there's a fair chance that he went with the Church Mission Society (CMS), who have been in Sierra Leone since the early 19th century. They have archives at

CMS
Watlington Road
OXFORD OX4 6BZ

which include lists of missionaries serving with CMS going back 200 years.
