Ah Now I get it --- that explains why the Vol No etc -- I hadn't seen them on the magazines you buy from WHSmiths etc.

I thought maybe it was my bad spelling confused you!
By the way (if I can hijack my own thread) how did the family history course go at school? Have you finished teaching it now or does it carry on?

Thank you for asking -- I had forgotten I hadn't given any feedback -- It ended up being 2 four week slots -- the second finishes next week as the Easter break came in the middle.

I decided to go for the following general headings:
Week 1 : Very brief info and then I guided them into setting up a family tree on Tribal Pages -- I had given them a list of questions beforehand so they had some initial info to get started.
Week 2 : Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates. -- I showed them FreeBMD and some of them managed to track down parents and Grandparents entries even in just 30 mins! -- it was more difficult for the lad who was first generation Jamaican! but ...
Week 3: Census -- In particular we used Family Search to access the 1881 -- using Winston Churchill as an example! Some got excited looking up other people they had heard of in History lessons -- the first generation Jamaican pu in his surname and was excited to find births with his surname from the particular part of Jamaica that his family came from -- I have left him to link them up!
Week 4: A brief review and mention of other places to get info -- eg Record Offices - Trade Directories and Wills --I also showed them a couple of old wills/inventories and gave them a chance to try to transcribe them with some interesting results -- they weren't impressed by the writing or the spelling!

Generally I thoroughly enjoyed myself -- being paid to talk Family History can't be a bad thing! -- I know at least one or two of the pupils have gone off to talk more to older relatives who have been investigating themselves or just to compare what they found with grandparents memories -- hopefully it will have provided a spark that will give them ideas for the future even if they don't follow it up now.

(Not quite the BC I admit so you could move it to General if you prefer).
The newsletter is free to BMSGH members, surely someone on here is a member?

No, I just wanted to know if it is a two-line article or a bit more so I thought I would ask here first. They only charge a quid for the newsletter to non-members so it isn't a question of trying to avoid the cost, more the hassle since it will involve payment, postage and packing, followed no doubt by import duty and VAT at this end. If no-one is a member then I'll get my sister to buy it for me I think. So feel free to tidy this post away after a couple of days.
