1851 and (any census after this) William WHARTON

Post by expat66 »

Can anyone see this chap on any census after the 1841 one?

William WHARTON... I found him on the 1841 census in Kings Norton, Worcs.

William WHARTON ( age 30) shoe maker
Elizabeth (30)
Louisa(4)
Emma(2)
John(6mths)
Mary BRIXTON(60)

same census... 4 doors away is Joseph WHARTON (aged 60)shoemaker... maybe William's father??

I can't find William WHARTON on any census after 1841... but he is on his daughter Louisa's marriage certificate in 1861.... listed as cordwainer ( I looked this up... it means shoemaker!)

There is another William WHARTON I keep finding but he is a licensed victualler born in 1809 ( don't think he is the same person?)

Thanks in advance!

Oh you clever people!!
Talk about something staring me in the face!

On the 1861 census , William WHARTON is at the Reservoir Inn, Edgbaston ( thanks Jimmy for spotting that!)
...next house is the lodge to the Reservoir....the lodgekeeper is George ECCLESHALL.... who was the father of Thomas ECCLESHALL who married Louisa WHARTON in 1861.
Looks like my great great grandfather (Thomas) married the pub landlord's daughter! and William must have put his shoemaking aside to pull pints

How many times must I have looked at that 1861 census and not seen that name WHARTON at the neighbouring address

Many Thanks
