but no trace of death of 2nd wife Leonie in period 1901 to 1911 and only found a Leonie Buffery on 1901 Census as lodger with Jeavons Fellowes family

Perhaps because she lost the child and left him?

I have a similar situation -- in my case mother has children and is a widow -- father is with his mother and is married - presumably not to his mother!
