*Arch tbc* Elizabeth or Eliza Nock b: abt 1821, Dudley

Post by nocky1972 »

Hi all,
i have another teaser for you if you don't mind...

I have an Elizabeth Nock b: abt 1820 in Dudley and i'm trying to find out where she was in 1841.

Her father was James Nock b: abt 1790 and his mother was Ann ?????? again born c: 1790.
As previously discussed we have a choice of Ann's that could be the correct one for James Nock as follows :-

Hannah Purton m: 1805 St Thomas Dudley - James Nock
Ann Freeman m: 1806 Halesowen - James Nock
or
Ann Priest m: 1803 Saint Michael, Lichfield - James Nock

I have looked at the 1841 census returns for Elizabeth or Eliza Nock and have come up with the following :

David Priest (Head)- 20 years - Collier - North Church, Dudley
Elizabeth Priest (Wife) - 20 years - Nailor - as above
Samuel Priest (son) - 1 year
Eliza Nock - 20 years- Nailor - as above
Ellen Nock - 1 year

According to other 1841 census material Elizabeth's brothers Thomas, James & William are living with their elder sister Ann Maria Raven (formerly Nock). It looks like their parants James and Ann have died and all of their children are being spread amongst other family.

Could this surname link (Priest & Nock) be a link to the name of Elizabeth's mothers maiden name ?

My head's hurting now ... ha ha !

Dont think it is nocky here is the marriage

1841
PRIEST David HACKETT Elizabeth Dudley, St Thomas Dudley Register Office 204/004/4

maybe try these see if father James
or she could have died by then.
Have you found marriages for the other kids yet besides the ann one and Thomas?

1839
NOCK Elizabeth HARRIS Robert Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box) Sandwell Register Office 39/1/404

1840
NOCK Elizabeth JONES Thomas Sedgley, All Saints Dudley Register Office 216/002/111

Hi ya,
do you think that it is unlikely that Elizabeth/Eliza aged 20 and Ellen (possibly her daughter) went to live with David & Elizabeth Priest ? Maybe they were cousins from her mother Ann's side of the family ?

Been thinking if you can pinpoint via the marriages of the kids when he died it would be useful should have his age on there
any marriages post 1837 sept I think it started- and then up to 1841 should have if he is alive or deceased on.
the 3 boys you have are no use
Ann is married pre 1837
who are the others cant remember off top of head

Death 1839
NOCK James Dudley Dudley Register Office DUD/003/137

1840
NOCK James Rowley Regis Sandwell Register Office RR/2/71

then you can pinpoint a bapt for him..wonder if he links to that noble nock?

Hello again,
found another Nock / Priest link ! not sure whether Priest was a common name around these parts but hey ! what do you reckon ?

Isaiah Nock 67 - born Rowley Regis
Leah Nock 59
James Nock 21
Ellen Priest 20 (Widow)
Mary Ann Nock 18

Is this just a coincidence ??????

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the other kids for James and Ann are :

Edward Nock b: abt 1828 (cant find anything as yet)

Elizabeth Nock b: abt 1820 (cant find anything as yet)

Joseph Nock b: abt 1826 (think he married an Elah ??? About 1854 -Rowley Regis, Dudley, Stafford)

William Nock b: abt 1821 (think he married Elizabeth/Eliza Toffler or Taffler 1846 - Apr-May-Jun - Walsall - Vol:17/Page: 267)

James Nock: b abt 1818 (think he married Celia Griffith - 16 OCT 1842 - Saint Phillips, Birmingham)

Still loads of digging to do me thinks !

could this not be James....would need to check on census age of this one

1843
NOCK James OWEN Eliza Dudley, St Thomas Dudley Register Office 204/005/390

quite a few for Elizabeth on bmsgh after 1841 might be worth following where that Ellen goes.

there is this is prob the one you mention for Joseph but a sarah and it would have been late marriage...
1854
NOCK Joseph B COX Sarah Brierley Hill, St Michael Dudley Register Office 210/001/388
again a few others that might fit joseph on bmsgh

Hi ya
the census was from 1841 so this James would be too young. Was wondering if Isaiah might have been James Nock's (b:1790 ish) brother or some relation....

Its starting to get a bit confusing now - eeek !

I thought James was bapt 1818
so how could he be too young.... :?

You still need these bapts checked you know nocky just to be certain they all have the correct James and ann.
so put em on the list!
and I will do it for you then at least you know that those kids are prob the kids of James and ann.
might be helpful to add what you have to connections so we can see them all.
Post the link and it will help

I would look at that marriage just to see who father of that James is the one in 1843

interesting there is an Isiah nock to Joseph and Ann and with another son James but the ages are out.

ISAIAH NOCK - Christening: 24 APR 1785 Rowley Regis, Stafford,

JAMES NOCK - Christening: 02 APR 1776 Rowley Regis, Stafford,

the name Joseph is interesting too.

Ok can you find on the 1841 a James Nock and ann with kids
as above will post the list in a min

I think they die this James and Ann.

they seem to baptise kids in St Thomas dudley although it needs confirming by bapt
I have done Thomas and Joseph but waiting for nocky to stick em on the List!

So think kids are farmed out to maybe rellies
nocky says....
"According to other 1841 census material Elizabeth's brothers Thomas,
James & William are living with their elder sister Ann Maria Raven (formerly Nock).
It looks like their parants James and Ann have died and all of their children are being spread amongst other family."

so looking for James and anns kids and approx ages.

looks like 3 of em living with sister ann maria

and others goodness knows where.

Poss James...?

Isaiah Nock 67 - born Rowley Regis
Leah Nock 59
James Nock 21
Ellen Priest 20 (Widow)
Mary Ann Nock 18

and poss Eliz
1841

Elizabeth Priest (Wife) - 20 years - Nailor - as above
Samuel Priest (son) - 1 year
Eliza Nock - 20 years- Nailor - as above
Ellen Nock - 1 year

trying to get a handle on when James and ann died

think that is right but I might have lost the plot!

I just think we need to determine where these kids are alive, dead married on the census what do you think?

there are some possible marriages and based on where living will help with the church.
So address is important in 1841
I think any poss marriages need to be eliminated and it would be useful as well as seeing if father is a James seeing if father is deceased

so ideas guys...lets find this lot.
