*To be Archived 24hrs TBC*Finding the right James Glover

Post by familyman »

Hi all,
I'm trying to nail down the birth date (And hence obtain birth cert and confirm parents names) of a James Glover born approx 1845. Approx birth year from all following census. Fathers name on marriage cert is given as Thomas Glover and mothers name is Ellen (From census) I suspect mothers name was Mawdesley but obviously this needs confirming from birth cert.

The trouble is there were a number of James Glovers registered about the same time.Is there any way of checking the records to save the expense of ordering a number of certs which would ultimately be the wrong ones. Any advise/help would be most appreciated.

Denis

Thanks for the replies.

I already had the info. above but I cannot convince myself that the James Glover christened in 1842 is the correct one as his ages in the 1851 and subsequent census all point to him being born approx 1845.

1901..........................56
1891..........................47
1881 .........................36
1871 ..........................26
1861 .........................16
1851 .........................7

and on his marriage cert (Married in 1869) his age is given as 24.

Unfortunately not.

I made a mistake on the above ages. In the 1891 census his age is given as 49 which would give birth date of 1842 :?

Sorry Peterd, completely misread your previous question.

In the 1861 census he did have the following siblings:-

Alice............18
Mary............14
Amelia..........12
Thomas.........10
Ellen..............8
Isabella...........2

and in the 1851 census:-
George............12
Alice..............8
Amelia...........2
Thomas...........1month

James obviously appears in both census.

The witnesses at the wedding were Henry Wilton and Alice Ellwood.. I seem to recall that during my research I found that Alice Ellwood may be related to the groom but this has yet to be confirmed.

Another quandry is that the weding between James Glover and his bride (Ann Nelson) took place in London when both of them came from Liverpool. I have looked for London relations but as yet have not found any.

Isabella Glover
Christening: 25 APR 1858 St Augustines, Everton, Lancashire,

Father: Thomas Glover
Mother: Ellen

extracted

ISABELLA ESTHER GLOVER
Christening: 08 NOV 1857 Saint Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire,

Father: THOMAS GLOVER
Mother: JANE

two isabella born between 1857/59 (free bmd)

Births Dec 1857
Glover Isabella Hester Liverpool 8b 56

Births Dec 1859
GLOVER Isabella Liverpool 8b 34

can any one find anymore on the one born c dec 1859

if no one can find anymore for you, i think if you send for cert or get this birth looked up you will find thomas mother maiden name as i think this is his sister from the 1861 census ?

Hi
Pete has the right idea going for a sibling to narrow it down a bit.

There is an Amelia Glover birth Sep 1848 West Derby. Wonder if that would be his sister? And Isabella Glover birth June 1858 West Derby.
That opens up the possibility of either James Glover birth Dec 1844 or Sep 1845 West Derby. You could ask for the certificate for the known parents Thomas and Ellen, then you should get it OK.
I presume West Derby would fit for the census? Where were they in 1861? Everton would be West Derby I think for birth registers.
