Wasn't he a bachelor when he maried Elizabeth Hall

Elizabeth with George Hall in 1891 is with Samuel and Elizabeth on each census (age is a bit out)

yes i know its says batchelor but there no other way to explain the 1861 census one of them had to be married before if the kids belong to them ?

thought that but couldnt find a marriage and why call the kid tether unless he adopted them as such ?
