I have had some new ideas on this one...

on the 1871 census I found the following DAKINS:-
1871 Church St, Harborne
Arthur DAKIN 29 labourer at glassworks born Tileby(?) Leics
Sarah DAKIN 28 born Oldbury
Alfred DAKIN 5 born Smethwick
Arthur DAKIN 4 born Oldbury
William DAKIN 5months born Smethwick

That would make this Alfred DAKIN's birthdate 1866 and the place of birth is the same too.

So are his parents Arthur and Sarah?

I also found this marriage in 1864
Arthur DAKIN Sarah DARN Smethwick, ST Paul, Sandwell Reg Office 9/1/46

I can't find any DARNs.... so I am wondering whether this should be DEARN?

In which case.... could this be Sarah DEARNE a sister of Hannah DEARNE, daughter of Ephraim ( on the BC Connections tree)

That would make the Alfred DAKIN I have living with my relatives in 1881... Hannah's nephew... and maybe he is listed as son because they have taken him in for some reason... did something happen to his parents?

What do you clever people think?....does anyone know of any DARNS?.... or is my guess a reasonable one?
