Could anyone recommend the best way to find out who Joseph's father was? The census only seems to go back to 1841 and he seems to have left home by then. I've tried searching for his marriage to Elizabeth Batty but can't find any details? I'm struggling to go back further than Joseph, how do you go ...

I'm not sure this is the same Joseph as mine was 77 in the 1901 census and still alive, he was born 1823 or 1824 according to the info I have from various sites.

Why does the age at death differ from 74 to 78 in the info you have?? The 78 year old could well be him!

Thanks Jimmy I think that's her, she was still living in old hill, Dudley so would have been under Rowley Regis not West Bromwich. A relative also said he thinks she died in the mid to late 50s so it adds up.
