I wondered if Finlay was working at Lea Mills before joining up? Perhaps not, the correspondence is not clear. As far as I know he could not read or write so that would explain why there were sometimes no acknowledgement of the parcels, the ones that he did acknowledge were probably written by some...

I wonder where Finlay married Helen. I can see that there might be a connection between Argyllshire and the Ellesmere estate so it is not odd that he moved there. But where did he meet Helen? I also have this certificate that was presented to him if anyone could shed any light on what this was about.
I think Orsley Review at the bottom of the page should read Worsley Review.

? m Great information there, thanks for that. That is him as I have checked the Regimental numbers I have. Finlay McMillan worked on the Ellesmere Estate as a gamekeeper in 1911 and lived in a house called "The Aviary" Worsley which I assume was part of the estate. Its a shame it doesn't ...
