Re: Winter is here

Lovely to speak to you at last. I didn't realise you sounded so foreign!! Not sure who the elderly women were you were dreaming about, we are all sooooooo much younger than you.

Would sign in as myself but don't know my password. (Lulu speaking)

Re: Winter is here

Frank Zappa lived at number 14 Eel Street,Oldbury back in the day. He used to breed huskies and he noticed whilst on his sledge being pulled by his 6 black and 6 white huskies how the snow would now and again turn yellow. Being a good citizen he decided to warn everyone in Oldbury Town never to eat...

Re: Good Films

Have just been to see 'War Horse'. Loved it! I think they'll be showing this many Christmases to come. And Lulu said: Off the topic but on the small screen. Did anyone watch Birdsong, on Sunday night and find that they couldn't understand half the dialogue, due to whispering and loud music? I don't ...

Re: Man from Uncle treads the cobbles

Becky finally left tonight. Hope she comes back.
As for 'The Man from Uncle' treading the cobbles, have I missed him? Have not seen him yet. Mind you, always preferred Ilya Kuryakin to Napoleon Solo ...

Re: hobbies - collections

Books in vast numbers! Literature, history, poetry, plays, books on WW1 and WW2, illustrateds, volumes of short stories, philosophy, psychology, etc. I am also trying to collect the first thousand numbered Penguin paperbacks in the rust-coloured edition. I like reading!

Re: Man from Uncle treads the cobbles

Becky is the best character in Corrie! And Stephanie Cole is brilliant! Does anyone remember her in 'Tenko'?

I agree. Completed, certainly for now. There is plenty here to research, and there are just so many of them! Thanks very much to all.

Re: Clarence Bate and family

Thanks to Gardener for sending the link to information on Registration of Still Births around the 1900s. It's so sad that often the cost of the burial determined the registration of the child!

Re: Clarence Bate and family

Clarence BATE's Siblings Thanks to all who sent me the details of Clarence's siblings [7, 8 children in all] for your input, and particularly for the dates and addresses. My puzzle is this: this has to be from the 1901 Census. However, I know from family legend that a male baby was born and died cal...

Re: Clarence Bate and family

Dear Jan I am checking what I can as go, but am severely slowed up by lack of computer expertise, and side-tracked by all the wonderful information on the site. However, think I have cracked saving a link [and not all the information in documents] and have found a way to look at the Archive. Not sur...

Re: Clarence Bate and family

Dear Northern Lass
Thanks for your patience with a beginner. I think I've managed to save a link to the BATE file, so don't need it to remain on the board any longer. Just in case, can you tell me where to find it in the archives [and also COLEY]?

Re: Clarence Bate and family

Thanks. All of this helps a great deal, but please, please, don't archive it yet until I've worked out how to access the archives. Like I said, very new to internet forums and, despite very long telephone tutorial with my lovely son, Rick [who is doing exams and hadn't really got the time!], I'm sti...
