Hi Northern Lass Yes it is thank you very much - he was in the Navy and then a Coastguard and when we obtained his naval record, his father had signed it and put and address in Kentish Town, so we were able to find the birth location from that. What's the Next Step?

I've been researching my family tree through Ancestry and have gone back as far as their records go. Is there a way on-line to go further back or is it a case of visiting churches/records offices?

For the son Walter Francis B: abt 1875 Portland, Dorset This is on 1881, 1891 censuses I can't find 1901 entries but when he married in 1908 he was living in Aldrington, Hove, Sussex just up the road from the coastguard station where Walter had been posted and place of residence in 1891.
