Crumpets!

I managed to make very edible crumpets

It took me half a batch of batter to get the texture right mindyou. I made my own crumpet rings by cutting strips of that re-usable parchment stuff, and stapled it into rings.

Here is one with homemade rhubarb and vanilla jam

I've been meaning to try making those, any advice?
I've got some metal rings, which are slightly smaller than normal crumpets - I use them as pastry cutters - my husband got them made up at work, they're dairy quality stainless steel pipes cut into 2.5 inch lengths. So I'm hoping they'll be okay to use.
I love crumpets with my Dad's home made damson jam (made so it's on the tart side!).

Didn't we argue that one before

Just go for it Snoopysue. The only tricky bit is getting the pan temperature right, just like for pancakes. If it is too hot then you don't have time for the bubbles to form and burst and the bottom gets burned.

Depends on where you're from! I know them under both names, but I call them crumpets. Pikelets can also be Scotch Pancakes. Yes Gardener, we've argued this one before!

Definitely crumpets; pikelets are thinner and scotch pancakes more leathery.

My scotch pancakes are anything but leathery - you must be doing something wrong SRD!

They're definitely not pikelets. Also I think pikelets are sweet wheras crumpets are savoury. I love to dollop a load of butter onto my crumpets. I love when the plate is covered in hot butter and you and try and soak it up with the crumpet as your eating.
