Well we kick off tomorrow.West Brom i'm on about. We play United at The Hawthorns and i reckon under Roy Hodgson we're going to have a good season mind you i say that every year! Oh for the halycon days of Jeff Astle,Tony Brown and Johnny Kaye.
Talking of Jeff Astle the original "King" was Denis Law and it's been 49 years this week that i watched Denis's debut againt West Brom at Old Trafford on his return from Italy.A mere lad on the verge of great things!! I'm taling about me not Denis!!
Matches against United are usually fantastic so i'm looking forward to tomorrow even though i watch from afar.
I wish Wolfman all the best and hope they avoid last seasons problems.
My mate Winston has to make do with the Championship this year but i hope they make a speedy return even though they lost at Derby last week he's confident. The eternal optimist is Winston, always has been.
Anyway to all football aficionado's a happy season to all.

Good morning SRD.
Mallosa didn't mean cricket silly." Off your own bat" is an expression one uses when you do something without anyone else telling you or asking you to do it .
Although it could possibly have it's origins in cricket i suppose. :?
Interesting point though SRD.

Morning Rob, soccer's not really my game, although I played on the wing for my prep-school first eleven but as there were only 13 of us in the top form it wasn't difficult to get picked. And I won't be popular here if I let on that if I have to say I support a team it has to be 'Spurs; another hangover from my prep-school days as it was the team one of the school bullies supported and he'd hit me if I couldn't recite the full first eleven, I got hit quite a lot but still can't for the life of me remember any of them today (although looking them up just now reminds me of a few famous names: Jimmy Greaves, Alex Jennings, Cyril Knowles, Alan Gilzean, Alan Mullery etc.). One would have thought that would have made me hate them for the rest of my life but somehow or other I've stuck to them. I was on holiday in Greece a few years back, self-catering in a villa, and the local greengrocer had all sorts of Man. U. memorabilia in his shop. He didn't have much English and I couldn't get across to him that my team, 'Spurs, was what he knew as Tott En Ham (he said it as if there were spaces in the name), he didn't know that the full name was Tottenham Hotspur.

That is quite possibly the strangest reason for supporting a team that I have come across before, and I have come across a lot. I grew up in Liverpool, so you are either a red or a blue. I had a friend who told me that the reason he started supporting liverpool was because he had a crush on an older girl who always wore nice red shoes . He therefore got his dad to get him a liverpool shirt as he thought the red might somehow impress her. It didn't of course, but he is now a season ticket holder. :P

I can see why people support their local teams, and even the teams their parents support, but I've never been one for supporting a big team just because it wins a lot!

As far as the reds and blues go, I'm not a football supporter, so it took me many years to realise that there was a religious divide as far as Liverpool and Everton are concerned. And the same with the Glasgow clubs, are there other cities where this is the case. And where does Tranmere Rover fit in?

I've just got in so i don't know how West Brom got on against Bournemouth but hopefully the results a good 'un despite fielding a team of "lesser mortals"!!
We've started with two losses but we've played well so i'm hopeful it's going to be a good season.Wolves on the other hand have started with two wins!! Northern Lass will, be happy that The Wolfman 's in a good mood but i wonder how long the euphoria will last!!
He's got a local derby to look forward to against The Villa this weekend with both teams in good form it's difficult to predict.
Watford -Birmingham? Who knows!! My mate Winston's confident. He's got two of my daughters stoppin with him this week oh and my grandson so he'll be a busy man.
