i am looking for information about my great X4 grandfather, john KELLY. he was a doctor/surgeon in kildare, ireland. he had 3 sons (that i know about) john, robert and matthew who all became doctors. the sons would have been born around 1780 - 1790. i have no information on his wife. the son john is my great X3 grandfather who moved to india and worked as a surgeon with the east india company. he married and had several children in india...

i have only just unearthed this generation of the KELLY'S after getting rather stuck tracing the later generations through india and then on to england. i would appreciate some advice about where to look on the web for info on irish family from this time period, some sort of starting point would be great! if anyone has any actual information about my KELLY'S in kildare that would also be most appreciated...

cheers...

thanks, i had looked at this site but was rather put off by the high costs to view. it does look like a really good resource though and i will probably have to use it eventually. hoping to find something cheaper or even free...

Yep it is expensive but its very hard to trace things in Ireland unless you can go and visit!
Someone else may have some more ideas? Being a Dr there may be more records?
Good luck.
