James Powell soldier

hi all
am researching my ggggrandfather James Powell born approx 1800 from Ireland listed on sons marriage cert as a soldier in 1847.
Sons name Nicholas also from Ireland, lived at The Knowle Rowley Regis.
Sadly this is all i have to go on.
Can anyone help ?

Nothing suitable in the Militia or Chelsea Pensioner records.

He couold have been with East India Company and you would have to checek their records.

The address on this marriage may not have have any meaning, they could be have been living almost anywhere.

5 April 1847 St Giles Rowley Regis.
Nicholas Powell. 21. bach miner. The Knowle. father Thomas, crossed out and James added Soldier.
Elizabeth Sheldon. 28. spinster. The Knowle. Thomas miner.
