What Can You Say

I can't believe the News I have woken up to this morning, the horrors of the shooting on that small Island in Norway, was so callously thought out. I've just been listening to one young man describing his personal experience, harrowing barely touches it. My heart goes out to all concerned. Words are so inadequate at times like these.

91 dead so far and about 80 injured.
We had one bloke kill 35 in Tasmania years ago and that took away Australia's innocence.
They are saying the same about this for Norway.
They never thought such violence could be done by one of their own.
What really angers me is these terrorists are supposed to be making a point about something.
This bloke targeted the Labour Party but nobody has any idea of what his gripe is.
Apparently he was "anti socialist" and "anti muslim" but what that has to do with the young people on the island is beyond me.
The camp might have been organised by the Labour party but the kids were there to enjoy themselves, not be converted to socialists.

Mark, we don't know yet but I suspect the targets were, in his mind, some sort of political statement but I think the bottom line is, he is mad/ a psychopath/ or whatever other label they might want to put on it. We have had a couple in the north of England recently. Thankfully, they hadn't orchestrated their killing spree so effectively. They both had grudges.
Norway has such a small population less then 5 million, with so many dead and injured, there can hardly be a person who isn't connected in some way.

They're saying he's extreme right wing - the last I heard was that the witnesses on the island are saying there was someone else there too. Their descriptions of the gun man seem to agree that there was another gunman. This hasn't been confimed yet.
They've also arrested someone with a knife close to where the states minister was.

Totally agree
One of my friends said it made her afraid to go anywhere.
My reaction was that I wont change the way I live my life, and it is still more likely I'll get run over than killed by terrorists.

it can easily happen here in the uk as a lot people are getting frustrated with the goverment lack or inability (european courts, Human right act) to deal with fudermentalisum and imigration.
when you see illegal imagrant or eastern european etc get acesses to the housing and welfare system, but people who has paid into the system all of there life are waiting for help or treatment but cannot get access to it because funds have been diverted then this could be a catalyst for something to happen.

There are always people looking for other people to blame for their situation.
If it is not immigrants it is the "upper class".
Welfare is there to help those who can't help themselves.
Many of the people who blame immigrants for "stealing their job" or "getting better welfare" could help themselves but would rather blame a scapegoat.
Compassion for others less fortunate should never be restricted to just citizens.

yeh mark thats why austrialia has some of the toughest imergation rules going and they blocked a ship full of people from entering it teritorial water a couple of years back
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/aug20 ... -a28.shtmland the tamils ?
http://www.pslweb.org/liberationnews/ne ... again.htmli agree some people will look for others to blame but there are something need correctings as we are too soft as a country as a whole.
we were giving millions in foreign aid to china up to last year when there was an out cry we give hundreds of million to india they have a stronger economy than outs and can afford to have a better space program than the UK
do you think if i was living in Aus i would be allowed to collect some benifit for the kids i have back in the UK dont think so they do here.
why do u think yet again the Aussie goverment has a recruting drive for skilled british worker happening again at the moment, because they know of the low moral in this country even if our own goverment doesnt want to know

Purely to prevent me from jumping in to this discussion, and probably causing offence, can we return to the original subject please.

People have studied his 1500 page manifest and still have no idea of why he did it.
We will get a million and one theories over the next few days.
Like Martin Bryant who killed the 35 in Tasmania, in the end the conclusion will be he was just an idiot with a gun.
Yes, it took great planning to do the diversionary bomb and then disguise himself as a Policeman.
He will have no clear motive for his act.
