Hello

My Gt Grandmother was a Ellen Adelaid Rogers, who married a John Bickford in Wolverhampton in 1905. They had 4 children up to 1917 then John died in 1921. My grandmother was born in 1923, No fathers name on her birth cert, but on her Marriage Cert, Her father is down as Frederick Pickford - Deceased - Steel worker. I have taken this as a mis transcribe.

Just hoping to find out anymore about the elusive Fred if i can.

Thanks Darren

Is that marriage in 1882 correct?

:? as Ellen would have been born within marriage of Samuel and sarah

maybe Samuels first wife?

There is no Frederick Bickford living with the family in any census (thought that he could have been Johns brother??)

Hello All.

**** CID Me too,

Thank you all so much for all your help, all the info looks correct to me and it is my family. not sure what info you require, but il give you what i have. - 1905 Marriage cert of John Bickford 24 Ironworker and Ellen Adelaid Rogers 20, Both living on Oxford Street, Nos 62 and 66 Respectivly. Fathers John Bickford Tinplate Worker and Samuel Rogers Labourer. Witnesses seem to be E Johnson and S J Benbow, (Not sure on the S J)

33 Sutherland Place is a Definate Address, also Back 9 of Bell Place, ( Which is just off the Dudley Road )

Ellen Louisa Bickford 1906 ( My Nans older sister ) married dec 24th to a George Tuckley and was living at the time at 20 Bennetts (Field ?)

As i said , im sure Frederick must be a relation to John Bickford, but i cant link him in anywhere.

Thank you all so much for all your help, I hope iv given you some more to go on with.

Much appreciated Darren

My nan was 3 when her mother died, so she went to stay with an Aunt called Ruth Williams who married Johns brother Charles. I am told they owned a pub i think called The Horse And Jockey, and a coal yard nearby the Canal. After a few months Ruth was caught hitting my Nan, by a niece, who told Ruths brother. His name was William Williams. He was married to a Margaret. They took my Nan Lilian from her, and soon after they moved to Newport in South Wales where my nan stayed.

My nan knew nothing of her real family until her wedding in 1941. My grandfather William Jones then contacted the Red Cross/ Sally Army. and sometime in the late 1950 were able to make contact with her siblings, who told my nan, that they just got up one morning and she had dissapeared with the Williams in the night.

Thanks a lot Darren

If your Nan knew nothing of her family until her wedding, it could be that she just got the wrong info and thought that her mothers husband, John Bickford, was her father and that his name was Fred???? Sometimes things get confused with the passage of time.

Well i was told recently by my uncle, That until she saw her wedding cert she didnt know his name. This info was aparently given to the vicar by William Williams the man whose sister had beaten her. and hewould probably have known. Also, John had died 2 years before my Nans Death, so hes ruled out.
