Hello All

Im new here but thought id throw in my worse brick wall. it is my Gr Gt Gt Grandfather Patrick Falvey. He was born around 1833 in Ireland, I believe in Cork, but not 100% on this. He arrived in South Wales around 1850, And was married to a Mary Lundrigan c 1835 also from Ireland, in 1853 in Pontypool South Wales. They had children Bridget 1854, Mary 1857 and Michael 1860 (My 2x ggf).

I have Michaels birth Cert and his fathers name seems to be mistranscribed as Patrick Ferredy. Patricks Marriage Cert shows his father as a Michael Falvey Labourer, Marys Father was Thomas Lundrigan, who i assume were still living in Ireland at the time of the wedding.

I would love to find out any family of Patrick or Thomas, and try to establish where in Ireland they actualy came from.

Thanks for that Jimmy, I have tried it and there is one possible that could be mine, but from a different area to what i thought, Still could be mine tho. Also the Possible has the surname FOLEY which keeps getting thrown up. Maybe a variation of FALVEY.

Have you tried chasing after the other Falvey names born Wales and living same bit of Wales? That might help, if your guy came over to be near an uncle or something. Sometimes you get lucky and find a place for birth on the census, even if there should not be.
How do you know that arrived in Wales abt 1850?

Thanks Peter for that, il have a good look through there, Gardener, Yes thats a good idea as im sure it wouldnt have been too common a name over here in wales, im sure there are a fer dotted around in Newport on one census i saw before, which is about 10 miles away from me. To be honest, i dont know why i say he came over around 1850, Maybe its because he seemed to be on his own, and was 20 in 1853. Still nothing at all to prove that, so any info on Patrick or Mary will be like gold dust.

Was looking at the censuses for 1841/51, Always concentrated on Wales, but looked on England. Spotted a Michael Foley born 1806 in Ireland a while ago living at Sheerness Barracks in Kent but ruled him out. Looked again and turned the page back and theres a Thomas Lundrigan also 1806 from Ireland, living in the same Barracks serving with the 96th Regiment of foot.

Could this be Patrick and Marys fathers? Bit of a coincidence, Not a lot of Thos Lundrigans about and the Foley could easily be mistranscribed.
