Robert Jones, born Rose Vale, 1918

Hi,

I've got my Dad's birth certificate and know he was born at 30, Rose Vale, Everton on 6th April, 1918. I can't find Rose Vale, Everton in the 1911 census. It is included in the 1891 census and of course in my Dad's birth certificate, as his place of birth. What might have happened to it? Could it have been knocked down and rebuilt around census 1911 time - i.e. no one was living there to record in the census return at that time?

Is Rose Vale a street, or an area of Everton?
It could of course be a transcription error - there are a fair few of those!

Hi
I can see the address listed in the 1911 census as 30 ROSE VALE LIVERPOOL
For some reason the even numbers are down as Liverpool and the odd numbers as Everton, Liverpool.
Perhaps you just need to do a less precise search?

Many thanks - I'm new to this and will have loads more questions to ask! I looked at the census 1911 via FindMyPast and the only RoseVales I could find were in Cornwall. In the 1891 census there shown as Rose Vale Street.

I know it's now supposed to say the same on both sites, but the 1911 Census government site and Find My Past are still not compatible when it comes to address searches. I can find Rose Vale on the 1911 but not on FMP, which is the one I subscribe to, so can't get any more detail. What are the names of his parents and I'll do a Person search?

Maggie,

My Dad's father was Thomas Edward Jones, although his marriage record does not show him using the second forename. He married Margaret Mullin in 1913. Margaret Mullin is shown in the 1911 census as living at 8, Denmark Street, Waterloo, Lancs.

According to my Mum (still going at 91!), Thomas Edward Jones arrived in the UK from New Zealand ( he was originally of Welsh stock apparently). I can't find any records to support this.

As my Dad deserted my Mum in 1958 I have not got much to go on.

I'd appreciate any leads you can give me,

best regards and thanks so much for the help!

How lucky you are to have your mother for information - I recommend getting a cheap digital recorder and then just chatting while looking at old photos, see what snippets come up.

Would Thomas Edward have served in the first war? If so then there is a slight chance that his records are available on Ancestry and they might have some information.

If you put in the surname Jones along with mother's surname Mullin, on here http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl then there are other births come up in W.Derby (district for Everton). Are any of them they siblings for you father?

Hi,

I have found my father's (Robert Jones's) marriage record to Margaret Mullin in 1913 and am going to order a copy to see what extra info I can get.

I know my father had several siblings. I shall get whatever names I can from my mother asap.

Thanks for the guidance!
