Nor me. The first record I ever bought myself was a Woolworth's cover of Susan Maugham's
'Bobby's Girl' on one side and Carol Deene's
'James, James, Hold the ladder steady'. I bought it because my uncle was called Bobby and his best friend James.

My first ever record I think was Frankie Vaughan - Green Door, had it for Christmas with my new Dansette.
I had a Saturday job in BHS in Dudley in the 60's on the record counter - sheer bliss. The records cost 6s and 8p and I remember my favs - The Everly's - All I have to do is dream, Del Shannon, Runaway, The Marcels, Blue Moon, Jonny Remember me, John Leyton and of course Elvis and Cliff. Dream job - playing music and getting paid for it and getting chatted up all day by the local talent.
Ahhhh - those were the days

I have seen Don McLean in concert at least 20 times since the 1970's!
First single I ever purchased was "The Real Thing" in 1969 by the best Aussie singer, Russell Morris, that remains unknown overseas.
Here he is at a concert I went to in 2007.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWQ1kTgpLfoThe first album I remember purchasing (I was lucky that my older siblings usually purchased albums I liked) was Machine Head by Deep Purple in 1972.
My first two CD's were Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto on Deutsche Grammophon and 1812 Overture on Telarc.
The 1812 Overture had warning stickers about how the cannon shots can cause damage to stereos, not due to volume but low frequency.
Having a very expensive Hi Fi I though I would not have a problem, till the whole system went silent after the second cannon shot.
Destroyed my pre-amplifier

That's one of my all time favorites!
My first record was Shaking Stevens - if memory serves correct I went to buy something else, but they didn't have it (what were those Irish sisters called?), obviously the money was burning a hole in my pocket!!!

Not much, true, but my mother was serving it up, and growing her own garlic, in the late 50s/early 60s. She also cooked with wine, considered very daring in those days.
