Hi All,

Is there anybody who could look up Samuel BAKER (d.1862, Lichfield) on the NBI for me. I had a look for a record at the library today but couldnt find one. I would like to find his burial location so I can visit and get a transcript of the grave and determine his exact date of death.

Regards,
Darren

Nothing on there for 1862 Darren, have you tried NBI 3 that has a lot more information. Where abouts' in Lichfield did Samuel Baker live? That could help narrow down the search, also do you know if he was C of E?

Linell.

Hi Linell,

From the 1851 census it looks like he lived in George Lane.

Residence: George Lane, Lichfield. Elizabeth Baker, 56, Samuel Baker 58 - Occupation Paver.

Yes, I believe he was C of E.

Thanks,
D

Hi Darren, George Lane is in the town centre, so probably buried at either St Mary's or St Michael's. Will pop into the archives ASAP and see if I can find it. Linell.

Hi Darren, Samuel is buried in St Michaels:-

Entry No 1065
Samuel Baker abode Tamworth Street Lichfield - Buried 30.3.1862 aged 70.

If you write to Stafford Archives and quote the Entry No they will send you a photo-copy for about £3.00.

St Michaels dates back to 1190, but the area it stands on has an even longer history, it was one of 5 Ancient Mercian Burial Sites.

Hope this helps from Linell.
