Yes that does make more sense. None of the censuses I have seem to add up though, because of her age. Here is what I have now:

All born in Staffs

Marriage:

John Wood 33. Gamekeeper. Colshaw, Staffordshire.
Mary Wood 39. Hollingclough, Staffordshire.

On the face of it I'd say the 1841 census doesn't match up, even allowing for the discreprency you get with the 1841 census (they were supposed to round the ages down to the nearest 5 years!)

There is another Mary Naden born 1821 living in Leek, but she seems to be married (living with a James Naden and 2 year old John Naden).

I've checked the 1851 census, it's not a mistranscription as far as Mary's age goes definately 39 years!

The 1861 census isn't so clear, the name Wood, could be many things! Although the last letter (d) looks very like how "ditto" is written.

That looks a lot more like it. It was a bit confusing as a lot of my ancestors lived at Sniddles Head Farm (my grandmother was born there) but on her mother's side and Mary Naden was on her father's side. If Mary did live at Sniddles then my great great great grandmother on my great grandfather's side (Mary) lived there in 1841 and them my great great grandmother, Ann Nadin Warrington on my great grandmother's side lived there 40 years later in 1881!! It could have been possible with the names Naden & Nadin for them to be related though but I think that the first 1841 must be the other family related to Ann Nadin Warrington. Very confusing.....
Thankyou

There were certainly a lot of Naden's in the area. When I did the last search there were about 30 Mary Naden's of all ages in the Leek area alone! So I suppose it's not impossible they were related somewhere!! I've not come across that surname before - you live and learn!!

The 1861 census fits in with all the censuses I have for John's father, George so I know that is correct. I've had real trouble with John because as the censuses go on Mary's age changes yet again!! It turns out that John married twice - first to Mary Naden and then to Mary Day. Mary Naden died in 1866. In 1861 Mary was 41 and then in 1871 she was 44.....2 different Mary's though
