Saint John's Eve

We celebrated the Danish midsummer yesterday (yes I know it's a few days late, but blame the church!)

We spent the evening at my husbands boat club, where we had a BBQ and a bonfire. All along the coast, we could see other bonfires, which was lovely to see.
It's traditional to burn a "witch" on the bonfire, and in later years the newly qualified students (about A-level stage), burn all their exam notes! It's not so much an alcohol festival as we hear in other countries, but more a family evening out, where there are sung songs around the bonfire. Almost all towns have an official bonfire, where the mayor (or other dignitry) gives a speech.

Our Midsummer Day was yesterday (24th June), not to be confused with the longest day (Summer Solstice) which was the 21st June and said to be when summer begins, so make the most of the weekend as summer will be over by Monday.

'Fraid so!
On the bright side, the best of the summer (hopefully) still to come, and there's only six months to Christmas
