Queries for Hope

OK Guys - I have archived that other thread for Hope and we are starting again from the beginning with bite size pieces, so that we can talk her through without things becoming too confusing. Hope doesn't have Ancestry or Find My Past, so we can help her with census information, only when she gets to the point of needing it

Hope - can you put the details of one of your marriages here and we will go through what you need to do next. Also, if you want us to - we can start adding your family to our Black Country Connections tree - so that was you can see exactly what you need to do next and where you're going.

We will need:
the date of the marriage,
where it took place,
the names of the bride and groom,
their ages and occupations,
their father's names and their occupations
and the names of the witnesses.

Maggie

Ok then - from this information we know that

William was born around 1868 and his father was Richard Cox - a Farmer
Maud Bolstridge was born around 1888 and her father was Johen Madox, Collier

Maud had a different name to her father which usually means she was married before. Does the marriage say she was a widow - also does William's marriage say he was a bachelor or a widower

I know everyone will be eager to help Hope with her research, but she is very new to this and needs to find her way around and come up with her own answers to start with. As much as we would love to - can we not give her any answers at the moment - just show her the way.

Thanks - Maggie

A good starting point would be the first census after William was born.

So I would look at the 1871 census for Richard Cox with a son called William born 1868 -/+ 5 years.

That would give you an idea of William's mother's given names(s).

I would look for an 1891 census with Johen Madox and daughter Maud born 1888 -/+5 years.

Hope can you give me one of the deceased rellies of yours that leads back to William Cox
and is born around the Black Country Area
as although we have a bit of a rubber boundary I need one toe in the BC area.

So if we Have William Cox born 1868....where is he born? as on ancestry there is one that fits with father Richard
an ag labourer. ....
That may or may not be yours.

So working to present day
how does the line go pls
and where born

so from William then how does it link to you?
Can you post the line to you and place of birth pls then I can start it off

Yes my Great Grandad Richard Cox was a ag Labourer on a farm.

My Dads family all come from the Black Country so may be best to do that side as the Cox come from Glostershire many thanks x
