Hi Folks
Have a 1938 wed cert.. both parties living in Blakeley Hall Road.
The Wedding took place at the Parish Church Oldbury, in the county of Worcester.
I've tried searching 1911 on a long shot that the parties concerned may be there, but its not coming up.. Did it exist then? and is there any other way of finding out info from around that time (38) regarding addresses..Its the Grooms Parents I'm after but unfortunately its a far more common surname than I'd hoped!!
I have Grooms name and age and fathers name and occupation, Searching for Grooms birth 1914c but Oldbury didnt exist then so not sure where to look? What do i do now??
Thanks for looking

Yes it did, and it's still there now. It's at the bottom of Oldbury (Low Town) and it runs under the Motorway. You can see it on Google Earth and Google Maps.

you tried the electrol registers for that address in 1938 to see who in the house the years before and afterward extra names might throw up a unsual first name ?

Sorry - I didn't read your last post correctly. Blakeley Hall Road is there now. The houses in the road are just pre-war council houses, so were probably quite new in 1938. The road may not have existed in 1911, but I can tell you that Broadwell Road was there in 1911 and was very close.
Smethwick Archives have the Electoral Registers for 1938, but their earliest records are 1919 - they will be able to tell you if the road was there then.
What names are you looking for and I'll have a look on 1911 FMP for you

Oldbury has been around for a long time and did exist in 1914. You will find births for this time recorded under West Bromwich, Staffordshire District.
Births for 1914 haven't been indexed yet on West Midlands BMD.

Yes - it's close - send to the local Office instead of GRO - tell them the parents names and they won't use your money if it's the wrong one.
Think it's probably Birmingham Reg Office - give them a call first to be sure because at some time Kings Norton came under Smethwick and these records are at Sandwell.
Just a thought - Blakeley Hall Road is very close to Smethwick. Best make the call to be sure.

Never seen electoral rolls on line. They will do a search for you at Sandwell Archives, but unless you know the name of the road you are searching for - it could prove expensive and they don't start until 1919.
