It is the 1841 census I can't find them, I have looked at Wellington and Pensnett Kingswinford without any luck.

Could they have changed their surname for some reason, or could it has been mistranscribed, or just missed off Jones on census image,

A big thank you Jimmy for finding them in 1841, could Merchant be a family name, perhaps Jane's maiden name, my mum has no knowledge of the name ever being used in the family, although on Joseph ' wedding certificate he was Joseph Merchant Jones.
