Lost at sea? - Complete

I've just been ancestry.co.uk-ing some ancient aunts and uncles and came across a piece of information I didn't know I had, and have no recollection as to where it came from. The information alludes to the fact that my "half great grand-uncle" John Mobsby (born abt 1855) died in about 1880, and the location of his death is "ss Lady Young" (which I assume has to be a vessel of some kind).
Anyway, I did a quick google on "ss Lady Young 1880" and discovered that it was lost in 1880 between Plymouth and Cardiff.
You can probably guess what my question is going to be...
Does anyone know how I can find out how and when he died, and if he died as a result of the loss of the ship...?
I can't find him on freeBMD...
Many thanks
