Need help again
Could anyone please have a look at the census for 1851... Bell Street ....Wolverhampton.
William COOK ..head (66)..locksmith.. born Wolverhampton
Elizabeth COOK..wife (60).. born Chilmark, Staffs......(I think it could be Chelmarsh, Shropshire?)
Louisa COOK unmarried (18) daughter... born Wolverhampton
Ann DALLVEN..sister-in-law..unmarried (63)... born Chilmark
(?Chelmarsh?)( is that her surname?..I think it might be Dallow?)
Joseph SADLER (40) visitor..unmarried...japaner..Birmingham
Philip THOMAS(21) visitor..unmarried..carpenter..Kidderminster
I wasn't sure I agreed with how Ancestry had transcribed both Ann's surname and her place of birth... I think it is DALLOW and Chelmarsh
Was going to attach piece of the text but my computer isn't letting me... think it needs a cup of tea or something?
Oh.. and what is a japaner?
many Thanks

A Jappaner is a French Polisher, sorry not got the 1851 on disc, I have found some of the Census discs are better transcribed than Ancestry or Find My Past, but sure you are right on Chelmarsh Ex Pat, near Bridgnorth, a lot of our Ancestors came up the Canal Waterways from there, and it's not that far from Wolverhampton. Had a look on GENUKI and Chelmarsh is the nearest town I can see in Shropshire. Ann's name does look like Dallow to me.
I always look at the original census on Ancestry, sometimes their indexing leaves a lot to be desired. I did hear once that most of their census indexing was done in India - so it's not surprising that there are a lot of mistakes. I make at least two offers of alternative information a day.
There is a Christening on Family Search forAnn Dallow on 04 JAN 1787, Chelmarsh, Shropshire, Daur of Richard and Ann
Here are all children of Richard and Ann Dallow:
MARTHA DALLOW - 15 DEC 1778 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
JOHN DALLOW - 24 JUN 1780 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
THOMAS DALLOW - 23 MAY 1782 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
RICHARD DALLOW - 12 JUN 1784 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
ANN DALLOW - 04 JAN 1787 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
JOSEPH DALLOW - 10 FEB 1789 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
MARY DALLOW - 10 FEB 1789 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
ELIZABETH DALLOW - 28 DEC 1790 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
WILLIAM DALLOW - 30 JAN 1795 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
Marriage for Richard Dallow to Ann Wilkes : 25 FEB 1778 Chelmarsh, Shropshire, England
A Japaner is someone who carries out Japanese style black hard varnishing.
