I can't find Mary Ann in 1881 Can anyone help please? According to her marriage registration her father was Joseph Downs.
Also have 1911 census missing, although she may have died before then which is probably why. Thanks.

Don't quite get how the Heapy's and Downes connect. If you search under Heapy and Downes for Leek there are loads of them farming in Quarnford!

Thankyou This has taken me ages to work out but from what I can see is that Eliza, Samuel Heapy's daughter is Mary Ann's mother
Eliza is down as daughter in 1871 as Samuel is head
In 1881 Eliza is down as step daughter to Susannah who is now head so she was Samuel's daughter but not Susannah's
and Mary Ann is down as step daughter's child which would make Eliza her mother
The other child, Joseph is Susannah's real child which is why he is Downes

So as Mary Ann's father was Joseph Downs then I would assume that Eliza married a Joseph Downs at some point (hopefully not her stepbrother

I could be totally wrong....has anyone got any other suggestions?? Thanks

I would think that Joseph Downs would be Mary Ann's father if they were living in the same household, and not blood relations. Or Joseph's name was on Mary Ann's Marriage Entry because Mary Ann wanted to make it look as though she wasn't illegitimate Linell.

It's nowhere near complete i'm afraid. I can't seem to work out what's going on here
I think I will have to take it a step at a time.
On the marriage of Samuel Heapy to Susannah Downes, Samuel's marital status is widowed so he must have been married before. Can anyone find this marriage for me as I think this would be Eliza's mother???
