Ok Staffies, get your teeth into this one:
I'm looking for information on Joseph Barralet, especially his, and his wife Minnie's (née Hanson we think) children, their spouses & children.
For Joseph we have a possible birth in 1825 in Bethnal Green, 1851 census in Bethnal Green, marriage to Minnie in 1877, 1881 census in Mark House Road, Walthamstow, 1891 census in Sydenham and a 1893 death in Lewisham.
For Minnie Hanson we have two possible Births, 1825 in Mile End and 1845 in Aldgate. The wedding in 1877, census as spouse in 1881 & 1891 and death in Croydon in 1921.
There are children Nelly Hanson b 1872 Stoke Newington, Lydia Grace in 1875 Walthamstow (both out of wedlock

), Joseph Hanson b 1880 possible death in 1944 in Aylesbury and Margaret L (known as Peg), possible birth 1884 in Brighton.
There was also another daughter known as Molly who reputedly married a McQuellan. Peg & Molly were alive in the late 1920s and in the early 1930's Molly (known as Miss McQuellan) was teaching in a school in Middlesex where a Jane Chambers (possibly known as Miss Page) had also worked.
Can you flesh out these details (all of which are debateable) for me?
If there are details of Joseph & Minnie's parents that would be great.
It's not impossible that there's an Irish connection with the name of Lea.

That is odd -- putting his first born son below the servant in the list!
At least we have a mother-in-law so it seems that they were Bohemian types -- with regard to marriage!

Brilliant stuff, thanks MathsGirl.
No sign of a Molly or a McQuellan though which is disappointing but the family used nicknames an awful lot so it may have been one of the existing daughters. Family gossip has it that the husband McQuellan was disabled ("She only married him out of pity". "The marriage was never consummated" etc.), possibly in WWI, if that gives any more avenues to explore.
Oh, and it wasn't Jane Chambers it was Viola, Jane was a nickname
Of course this was in the 1930s, maybe I'll have to wait for another 20 years for the next two censuses to be published. And I've just realised that the school must have been in the Edgeware part of North London (Middlesex) so it looks like they had moved from the house in Sydenham. We have letters written from the children of the school to MrsSRD's mum (Viola Chambers as was) after she had left to move up North. Some of those children may well still be alive.
By the way, if that Barrald entry and the marriage in Brighton are the right ones, Joseph & Minnie had been living together as man and wife for some time. I wonder what their origins were? Any chance of parentage?
I have a vague memory of seeing an entry for a Minnie Hanson on passenger arrivals at Liverpool but can't find it now, can anyone else see if they can find it?

Given the difference in their ages, could he have been married before and they had to wait until he heard first wife was dead before they married?

Leaving the 1871 census aside -- the implication in the others is that there was some money around -- retired pottery dealer/ living on own means --- would trade directories give any further clues? / wills?
