As most of you know I am a slave to domestic duties,
never without a duster in my hand or a pinny around my ample waist.

But I decided today to get some ladies wot are experts in!
And I have to say they were fantastic!
The best Clean I have ever ever had! The place is now a palace!!

And even better I got to talk Genealogy to them

2 real Black Country lasses and really friendly and excellent workers.
So would recommend them

Some really great surnames in her tree and I am running with them in the BC section.

Why do i , when i'm reading this, get an overiding feeling of uneasiness?
This is so decadent!! A healthy (how old are you?) person getting people in to clean for them just to have more time to sit behind the computer is ,if i may be frank, upsetting.
Why not clean the house yourself and give the money you save to Children In Need?

You will be aware that I have got a little behind on the genealogy and this has helped to readdress the balance.

Of course one could always do both but it's damn silly to employ someone if you've done the work yourself. If we all did the work we need to do to survive (grow food, build shelter, make clothes etc.) rather than employing someone to do it for us we wouldn't have any society let alone time to enjoy it. Just giving the money to charity stops there, giving people work enables people to help themselves and keep them out of the need for charity themselves and maybe make contributions of their own.

My mother worked as a Primary school teacher for many years, for some of them she was a single mother living with me in a two up, two down, outside WC terraced property and, after remarrying and having more children, she continued to work, and employ a home help, for all of that time, it pushed the money around. After my step-father made sufficient for her to 'retire' she continued to employ staff (by then three part-time housekeepers and two part time gardeners - it was a large house); it was a way to put into the local community some of the profits made internationally by my step-father's business. She also insisted in only buying from the local shops as she believed that for those like her, who were wealthy enough so to do, should do everything they can to support local businesses and, concomittantly, provide employment.

Got to agree with you there SRD, it's really important to support local businesses. I love decorating, but now I don't have time to do it myself, I pay a local decorator, I pay a local gardener and use local shops where I can. I use the village supermarket for bits, but still get my big shop from ASDA or Sainsbury's, I don't have time to shop around. I do use a local butcher, never buy meat from supermarkets - (can I give Bowketts a plug here - probably the best for miles). When the kids need a new bike, we use a local shop in Quinton, he's brilliant, one of my grandchildren has Poland Syndrome, so his left hand is smaller than his right - this guy changes the brakes over and makes sure the child is comfortable with them before he lets if go out of the shop - can't see Halfords doing that.
