Has anyone seen/ know where to find large scale maps of Old Hill which show street names pre-1880 to match up with census data ?
(I don't yet have any local history books for Old Hill, although I have managed to 'borrow' a number of the recommended Halesowen books which do have really useful maps in)

I find the ALan Godfrey collection useful

http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/

They are not too expensive but you do have to be careful ordering as the area covered is not very big and you can get the one next to where you want -- most of them are dated early 1900's but it is a closer match to 1880 than present day maps.

They are v.good I have the Old Hill 1900 but I'm looking for for earlier streets which appear to have gone by then.

If you go to the Dudley Archives web site at www.dudley.gov.uk/archives right hand side click on Historic Mapping.

You won't be able to type in the name of a street, because Old Hill comes under Sandwell as NL has said, and the maps don't recognise any streets apart from the ones in Dudley. So you'll need to find Halesowen Road, Netherton.

In the “select a street” box just type in Hal then click search.
In the drop down box click on Halesowen Road, Netherton, click submit.
You'll see an up-dated map of Primrose Hill.
Click on the “hand/pan” put this on the map, left click your mouse and hold down while scrolling up the map.
You'll see Bowling Green, scroll to the left and you'll see Old Hill.
Underneath the map it gives what dates you want to look at.

If you have any problems give me a shout.

There's really interesting stuff here.- I couldn't get a very clear view of the 1880 map - is there any way of getting the map darker ?
