Hello everyone!

I've been researching my family history for about four years and am finding it very interesting.

I have also been looking into my husband's family but have come up against a brick wall with regard to his great-grandfather, Frank Bevan.
According to the 1891 census, he was born c1856 in Bristol. He married Jane James in London in 1889 and his marriage certificate states he was a fly driver and his father,William Bevan, was a carpenter. Frank died in Richmond on 25th January 1895. I have been unable to find him in the birth records or on the 1861, 1871 or 1881 census records. Someone in the family once mentioned they thought he had been a Bengal Lancer. Does anyone know if there are records held in relation to Bengal Lancers?

Thanks!
Tracey

Thank you everyone for your welcome.

Thanks also Jimmy for your replies. I had come across the family you have found and thought I had "cracked it" too, but, unfortunately, there is a death record for a Frank Richard Bevan in Bristol in 1856, which would account for him not being mentioned on the census records with the rest of the family. Perhaps I should send for the Death Certificate in any event to check.

:P
